So this year we have had a fairly busy time. Kicking off in January with the Epiphany event in Manchester City Centre, unfortunately the weather meant this was moved in to Manchester Catherdral instead of the traditional walk through the centre. We have also performed once again at the Museum of Science and Indsutries ‘Sewers, Sweat & Steam’ Victorian Extravanganza event.
The highlight of the year is obviously our trip to France where we once again competed in the French Open, coming away as winners. It’s not all about the playing though, this year we supported our Presidents Rotary charity by entering a team in a Dragon Boat Race on Hollingworth Lake, overall our team came 8th and the whole event raised an incredible £10,000+ for Springhill Hospice. We also hosted our 50th Annual Dinner Dance where band members, friends, family and patrons are all invited to a formal sit down meal and then on to the dance floor to shuffle the night away, as always it was a great success and everybody had a great night.
We’ve had a quiet summer and enjoyed a short break, we still had time to help celebrate our Treasurers 40th wedding anniversary where we performed and danced the night away, our congratulations to Bill & Joyce. We’ve also celebrated John and Tara getting married back in April and the arrival or baby Isobel who will undoubtedly be joining her mother Nicola on Tenor Horn soon!
Still to come we have our annual Cream Tea on September 21st, a Quiz night with a twist on November 15th and our Christmas Concert on December 13th. Tickets for all of these can be obtained from band members or reserved by using the contact us form, they all priced at £5, however if you have a full team of 6 for the quiz there is a special price of £25. We hope to see all of our old friends at these events but look forward to meeting new people so please bring along family and friends.
It’s not all concerts though, we have once again entered the Bolsover Entertainments contest on October 5th and Rochdale’s renewed band contest on October 26th, we are hopeful we will continue our winning ways from France through these two contests and in to 2015 and the NW Areas in Blackpool.
