The Player Situation

We are currently looking for a few players to fill seats for the upcoming year which will promise to be exciting and interesting, we are generally a busy band and do some very high profile jobs in and around Manchester along with contests as you’d expect. We are looking to go to the Chemnitz Music Festival in Germany in May and play at an event hosted at the Museum of Science and Industry in February, in recent years we have also been involved in Manchester Day Parade, Manchester Pride Parade and the French Open (which we plan to return to in 2014).

The seats currently vacant are:

  • Principal Cornet – we are looking for a quality player who can come in and lead a full cornet section of varying abilities while adding that sparkle to make our concerts and contests even better.
  • 1st Horn – Our current Solo Horn player is away on maternity leave (congratulations to her of course) so we need cover there, our previous 1st horn player has moved up to Solo Horn so we need someone who can support him in the short term but who may not be able to committ in the long term, provisions can be made should you wish to hang around of course.
  • Bb Bass – we have a very settled bass section, but there is only three of us and we’d love a fourth to add to the section.
  • Percussionists – as always we welcome anybody to come along to hit things at the back, rhythm and ability would be appreciated 🙂

Any players are welcome along for a rehearsal or to sit in whenever they want, we are a very welcoming and friendly band and will always pull up a chair for players of any playing ability to experience brass banding in North Manchester, unfortunately we don’t currently have provisions to teach people from scratch but we can recommend people if that’s what you fancy.

We’ve also seen some changes in our current set-up, Chrissy has decided after a few years sat on the Principal Cornet seat she would like a bit of an easier life at band for the time being and has opted to take up the vacant Repriano Cornet seat, hence the opening for a new Principal, we have to thank her for all of her hard work and committment she has shown on the top chair and she’s definitely earned the mini respite rep offers. Jamie Gordon has also moved slightly in the Horn section, he will be covering on Solo Horn while Nicola takes time out to have her baby, we wish her all the best and good luck for the birth and many congratulations to Jamie for his promotion. We’ve also welcomed some new, and old, players through the door recently who have decided to come along for a blow and see how things go, so thanks to Dave and Joanna who helped us out over Christmas and welcome to Ian, Emma and Matt who have all been along recently and we hope to see more of them all soon.
