53 years ago the Blackley Band started awarding a bandsman of the year trophy to the individual who contributed the most away from the general requirements of the band. The first winner of that award was John Ford, since then his name has appeared on that trophy multiple times, with the only noticeable period of abscence was whilst he was Secretary and therefore ineligible. This year John announced his retirement from full time playing and guaranteed commitment, we honoured John with a token of our gratitude at the recent dinner dance.
We wish John all the best and hope he has a happy retirement, should he run short in his gift he knows he’s always welcome at the Bandroom on a Monday or Thursday.
