New (and old) Faces for Blackpool

This weekend sees us compete in the North West Area Contest in Blackpool on Peter Graham’s ‘Journal of Phileas Fogg’. We’ve been working on the test piece since before Christmas and we’re one rehearsal away from the event!

All brass bands are currently struggling for players as it seems brass bands become less of a draw for young blood. However we have been lucky in the run up to this contest that we have been able to welcome some new players and call back a few familiar faces to fill the holes.

Firstly a massive thank you to Ciaran and Nina who have stepped in on Sop and Front Row respectively to fill two important gaps for this contest, unfortunately we won’t be seeing as much of them as we’d like once Sunday is over as one lives in Ireland and the other is concentrating on university and furthering their trumpet career. We also welcome back John and Tara who’s retirement lasted approximately 6 weeks before we were on the phone, again a short lived return but we are eternally grateful for their help on the cornet ranks.

Matt, Amanda and Olivia have all come along on the horn section, with Matt taking up the vacant flugel seat and Amanda and Olivia filling out the horn section with Nicola. Special thanks to Amanda as well, she has used her contacts at university to help us find Nina and also persuaded her other half to come over and help us on Sop (Ciaran).

On the Euph/Bari row we see Declan return from a short break to play Euphonium alongside Adam and we welcome Mark down on to 1st Baritone who is along for the full ride now.

Sam has taken up the Solo Trombone seat as Amanda has unfortunately had to step back due to work commitments and we’ve welcomed Karen down to sit alongside Joe on Bass Trombone.

We will keep you updated via Facebook and Twitter on our weekend adventures so be sure to follow us there and tell all of your friends. Oh and wish us luck!
